Earlier this month, Intermark Group got some very special visitors! A group of 11 girls who are part of the TRIO Upward Bound Program based out of The University of Montevallo came to Intermark Group to learn a little more about what a future career in advertising might be like. The girls, 9th–11th grades, represented schools from Bibb, Shelby and Chilton County schools.

The Upward Bound program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program offers opportunities for them to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education.

The students first sat through a presentation on some of Intermark Group’s capabilities. A few Intermark employees met the students and told them a little bit about the different departments that we have here, as well as some of the roles within those departments. The students were able to ask questions about the specifics of roles that interested them and what paths in college might lead them to such roles. The presentation was finished up with an overview of Intermark Group’s summer internship program. Two former Intermark interns-turned-Intermark employees were able to give some valuable insight to the girls on the value of internships and how they are beneficial in deciding on a career path.

After all the talking was done, it was time to get on the move! The students took a tour of the agency, where they saw people doing the jobs they just learned about. The girls enjoyed touring our casual workplace and seeing the different spaces that we work in every day.

Over all, the students had an excellent time at Intermark Group, and we thoroughly enjoyed having them visit! We hope that this visit inspired them to pursue a career in some facet of our industry and that they might one day be on our team!
